Permit To Work System :
This Permit to work is basically permissions required to do day to day works in Plant or Industry.
Permit To Work itself says its a basically permissions to work for defined jobs.
Permit to work is a very important and necessary in Plants and especially in chemical/pharma plants.
In plant during operation the atmosphere has different types of Hazards so its necessary to be aware about the hazards present in the area where work will be executed.
For Craftsment/Contractor is really important that hazard associated with the work can have impact on the hazard present in the plant.
Different types of Permits are available depending on the works to be executed:
1. General Work Permit - which covers normal works wherein no cutting,welding,drilling or other high hazards are associated.For this work we have to take General Work Permit.
2. Hot Work Permit - which covers works which results into hot condition/sparks like cutting, drilling or welding works hazards are associated. For this types of works we have to take Hot Work Permit.
3. Height Work Permit - which covers works which is to be done at height wherein there are chances of falling from height hazards are associated. For this types of works we have to take Height Work Permits.
Height work permit is generally required while working at height above 2m or 1.5m in some companies depending on their internal safety standards and policies.
4. Digging Work Permit -which covers works which is to be done excavation on ground. This activity needs to be done in taking into consideration of underground utilities like Underground cables, pipelines of chemicals/water etc;
So while doing this working necesssary inspection to be done for presence of underground utilites and then should be carried out works.This is normally required while doing deep excavation of 500mm or below again depending on their internal safety standards and policies.
5. Confined Space Permit - which covers works to be carried out inside tank,vessel or similiar area where there is only single entry and exit. While working in this area if person complete goes inside area then this work permit is required.
6. Lock-out Tag-out Permit(LOTO) - which covers isolation of electrical energy from the equipments/devices on which work is being performed.This is really one of the important permit in plant in order to ensure isolation of energy and safeworking of the person on the equipment.
